BASICS FOR PLANNING YOUR 5K RUN/WALK

A 5k is 3.1 Miles.  Use these tools to help you plan a route through your neighborhood or a local park.

  • Use a GPS app on your phone to measure your distance (like the free app Strava https://www.strava.com/ )
  • Use a fitness tracker as a guide: 2000 steps = 1 Mile, so 6200 steps = 5k
  • Use your car's odometer to plot a route in your neighborhood
  • find a certified course in your town or local park in USATF's database: https://certifiedroadraces.com/search/
  • Walk or run 12.5 laps on a local high school track
