Description

2018 Standing Stone Half Marathon Weekend

Huntingdon County, PA. October 13-14, 2018

8K Start time: 8:00AM

Half Marathon & 5K start time: TBD

Registration for the Virtual Half Marathon & Virtual 5K is now open!

Registration for all other races opens on June 26, 2018.

New Half Marathon course this year. We have added a trail section which will take runners past the peace chapel and Meditation point.

The Peace Chapel was designed in 1988 and constructed in 1989 by architect and sculptor Maya Lin, who also designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. and the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama. The Elizabeth Evans Baker Peace Chapel, like many of Lin's designs, is remarkable in its simplicity, yet very powerful and moving.

The Peace Chapel consists of two main sites, one large and one small, with a series of 24 granite steps leading up a slope to the larger of the sites, which is situated at the center of an open field. The larger site, consisting of a 40-foot circle composed of 53 rough-cut, salt-and-pepper blocks of granite, accommodates groups of people in a spectacular setting overlooking surrounding mountains and forests. Each of the stones was hand picked by the artist from a Vermont quarry.

The second site, several hundred yards from the first, is located in a small grove of trees on a knoll slightly higher than the circle of stones. This element of the Peace Chapel consists of a single smooth granite disc, four feet in diameter, situated for individual, private meditation.

The race will cover the trail system from the Juniata College Peace Chapel to flagpole hill where runners will see a spectacular fall view.

Our race would not happen without the help of our tremendous volunteers. We had nearly 100 other dedicated volunteers that worked very hard to make our inaugural 2017 race a success. We would like to recognize the following outstanding 2017 volunteers that truly went above and beyond: Joy Weidel, Dave Berger, Renee Berger, Dana Jefferson, Ed Tos and Rickey Himes.

The Standing Stone Half Marathon and Festival is in rural Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. You will have a memorable experience completing our challenging 13.1 mile course that winds through our historic town or one of our shorter distances.

You can expect to see smiling and cheering spectators along the course. Music and cheerleading squads will also be stationed along the course to encourage runners and entertain spectators. Watch the race from any spot along the course or join others at one of our special designated cheer zones. We will have plenty of water stations.

The Standing Stone Half Marathon/Relay/5K is a professionally chip timed race. Fluid stations will be set up throughout the course. A results kiosk will be stationed near the finish so you can get your results right away.

$2 discount for USATF members.

Registrations after 9/25/2018 are NOT guaranteed a t-shirt by race day.
