Domains
The Only Website You Need
A custom domain means your website is myawesomrace.com instead of runsignup.myawesomerace.com. Both URL's will still work, but it gives you the benefit of having a clean, simple URL - without the hassle of needing to update and maintain a second website.
Hosting your domain, including your SSL Certificate, is free.
Website Infrastructure
Hosting your website on RunSignup's infrastructure gives you several benefits:
- Your website is always secure - you get a free SSL certificate to prove it, and you are PCI Level 1 Compliant (because RunSignup is)
- RunSignup had 100% uptime from 2016-2019. You can have confidence your website will be available when your participants come looking for it.
- RunSignup is built for scalability - meaning you'll never see your site crash under significant traffic
Domain Setup Process
Step 1: Access your Domain
- Get your own domain or login to your domain manager
If you're not sure what your domain manager is, https://whois.icann.org can help. Once you're logged into your domain manager, you can find all your information about your domain.
Step 2: Prove Ownership
- Set TXT records. RunSignup gets an SSL Certificate for your domain
In RunSignup, navigate to race -> race page -> domains on RunSignup and add your domain (or subdomain)
Update your TXT records:
Step 3: Point Domain
- Set the A Record and CNAME record
You may have to wait for the SSL Certificate step to complete. Once it is, your installation involves installing the A an CNAME DNS records on your domain registrar's zone editor:
And you're up!
Domain Gotchas:
Having trouble with your Domain Setup? Worried about what could go wrong?
- Info copied wrong
- Multiple A Records
- Pointing existing website with content will break old links
- RunSignup doesn't own the domain - it's just pointed to RunSignup
- You must have a payment account setup to set up a domain
- You must log into your custom domain separately from RunSignup
