Inclement Weather Protocols
Participant safety is of the utmost importance to the Race Crew and we take every precaution to ensure a safe and fun event for everyone. We have an extensive inclement weather plan based on a variety of factors. Below I have included some of the basic information from that plan but note that specific circumstances can dictate updates and changes.
The race will proceed as scheduled rain or shine and no decisions regarding cancellation, rescheduling, or course changes will be made until the morning of the event. If a major weather event occurs or is being planned in the days leading up to the event we may determine a decision needs to be made prior to event setup but that will be only for extreme cases, not forecasted rain or storms.
On the event day, depending on the specific situation, there may be changes to the course. For example, if there is standing water on the trail the decision may be made to change the distance of th event.
Lightning within 10 miles of the event site may cause delays in the race beginning. Our plan dictates that there cannot be a ground lightning strike within 10 miles of the event site for 30 minutes for the event to proceed. There are protocols in place to delay the start of the event if necessary up to a certain point.
Again, these are just some examples and we have pre-planned many potential scenarios. If we need to enact any of the protocols, everything will be communicated to you via email in a timely manner.
