Everything's better with a truck. The Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run is no exception.

On Friday, October 4, help AUSOM staff prepare for the event by packing up supplies and equipment and loading the truck with signage, t-shirts (event and volunteer), race packets, cases of water, Grab 'n Go bags, etc. Lifting required.

Volunteer Liaison

Details

Many hands make light work at the Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run from 9:00AM-Noon. More than 100 volunteers help us at this event. As the Volunteer Liaison, you will check in volunteers when they arrive. Help them select a volunteer t-shirt and connect with the volunteer lead for their task or find their work station. Before they leave, record their hours, collect their t-shirt, process their service hour paperwork, and learn about their volunteer experience.

Set us up for success at the Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run from 9:00AM-Noon. Tasks include setting up tables and chairs, unloading equipment and supplies, moving equipment and supplies to different areas in the event village, setting up stations (registration, check-in, refreshments, Start/Finish, etc.), making Grab 'n Go Bags. Lifting required.

Event Day Traffic and Parking

Details

Practice your traffic cop dance moves at the Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run from 9:00AM-Noon. Direct drivers (volunteers, exhibitors, participants) where to park before the event. Parking will be located on the south side of Centennial Park, with overflow parking at Columbia Presbyterian Church across Rt. 108. On-site training and safety equipment (vests, flags, etc.) will be provided.

Details

Not everyone gets to it ahead of time. Help participants register at the Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run from 9:00AM-Noon. Volunteers will process day-of registrations online on the event website or off-line with paper forms. Volunteers need experience registering on a laptop, tablet or smartphone. Registration will be open until 15 minutes before Start time. Volunteers will coordinate with Check-in and T-shirt Runners to distribute race packets (t-shirts and bibs).

Shirts, bibs and shoes required (well, shoes are optional) at the Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run from 9:00AM-Noon. Help pre-registered participants check-in and collect their race packet (bib and t-shirt) the morning of the event. Assist on-site registration volunteers and t-shirt runners with day-of registrants.

Race Route Guides

Lend a guiding hand with a cheer and a wave at the Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run from 9:00AM-Noon. Direct walk/run participants on the race route, take down distance/direction/sponsor signs, and clean up along the Walk/5K Run course. Volunteers must be able to walk 3 miles and stand for at least an hour until runners and walkers have finished the course.

Race Timer Assistant

Time is of the essence, especially for 5K runners who want to post a PR! Help the race timer at the Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run enter on-site registrations before the starting gun goes off. Race Time Assistants will coordinate with volunteers at on-site registration and the race timer. Experience entering data on a laptop, tablet or smartphone helpful. Registration will be open until 15 minutes before the starting gun goes off at 10AM.

Water Stop

Helm the hydration station at the Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run from 9:00AM-Noon. Set up the water stop, hand out water, and clean up trash along the Walk/5K Run course. Some lifting required. Volunteers must be able to walk 3 miles and stand for at least 2 hours until runners and walkers have finished the course.

Help exhibitors and sponsors unload and carry their supplies to their booths in the event village. Help them find their way around the event site, offer refreshments, and assist as needed. Help pack and load supplies after the event. Lifting required.

There's fun for all ages at the Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run. Help AUSOM monitor the inflatable obstacle course at the Children's Play Area on Saturday, October 5. Assist the entertainers and face painter as needed and clean up the area after the event.
