The Wyoming Valley Striders have been the driving force behind the distance running scene in northeastern PA for over 49 years, hosting a varied slate of races every year--some of them are now approaching the half century mark.
For a time, the club put on a race series, the Wyoming Valley Striders Triple Crown, with special awards and prizes for participants. The last iteration of this series was in 2011 but in 2019, the club named a new series.
Returning in 2024 is the 5th Annual Vince Wojnar Triple Crown! (A 2020 series did not take place.)
The series is named in memory of Vince Wojnar, the co-founder of the club in 1975, who passed away 1.18.18. Vince was a staple in the running community. He volunteered half of his life to the Wyoming Valley Striders serving in various positions on the board from 1975-2018 and was race director for Strider races up until his retirement in 2015.
The race series is open to all runners; club and non-club members alike.
The series consists of the following in-person Wyoming Valley Striders club races:
All three races need to be held in-person in order for there to be a triple crown.
See what area runners have to say about the Vince Wojnar Triple Crown! Click here.
Every runner who runs and finishes in all three races qualifies for a commemorative Frank Shorter microfiber windbreaker jacket and series division awards.
To be eligible for prizes for 1st through 3rd place in each division, the participant must run in all the series races.

Series medals for the top finishers in each age group shall not be awarded, however each race will still have its own age group medals awarded to the top finishers.
The registration cutoff for the series is the pre-entry 20K pre-entry deadline. However, to be eligible for series prizes and gifts, the participant must have run the prior two races for this to be relevant.
The series leaderboard is accessible on the series website. Click here!
There are no other series age groups outside of the divisions listed above.
A Master must be 40 & over and a Grand Master 60 & over for all 3 races. Ages for scoring are calculated based on the age of the runner on March 17, 2024. If a Master wins in both divisions (Open & Masters), he/she will get the higher of the two. In the event of a tie, the fastest combined time for the three races will determine the winner.

"The Vince Wojnar Triple Crown is extra special because it’s a way of honoring the man who I believe is the reason we have such an amazing running community today! My favorite part about participating in the series is being able to share the experiences with all the runner friends I have met through the years. I continue to be inspired and energized by surrounding myself with fantastic people during these events!"
Heather Dewees - (2021) 2nd place female masters, (2019 & 2022) series participant
"The WVS Vince Wojnar Triple Crown means to me challenging myself, enjoying my passion with running and bringing the community together. I’d say my favorite part is getting to run some amazing spots in the Wyoming Valley!"
David Buckman - (2021) 2nd place male open, (2019 & 2023) series participant
"The Striders triple crown has the best participation gift each year!"
Anonymous - three-time series participant
"The triple crown is an endurance and training challenge. How well did you train this winter to succeed in the first two races and how far did you run in the summer to kick butt in the 20k? It helps me focus on training all year round and gives me the opportunity to connect with the great running community in the valley throughout the year!"
Anna Evans - (2021 & 2022) series participant
