The Wyoming Valley Striders have been the driving force behind the distance running scene in northeastern PA for over 44 years, hosting a varied slate of races every year--some of them are now approaching the half century mark.
For a time, the club put on a race series, the Wyoming Valley Striders Triple Crown, with special awards and prizes for participants. The last iteration of this series was in 2011.
The big news is that for 2019 the series is back with the inaugural Vince Wojnar Triple Crown! Register for all three races!
The series is named in memory of Vince Wojnar, the co-founder of the club in 1975, who passed away last year. Vince was a staple in the running community. He volunteered half of his life to the Wyoming Valley Striders serving in various positions on the board from 1975-2018 and was race director for Strider races up until his retirement in 2015.
The race series is open to all runners; club and non-club members alike.
The series consists of the following Wyoming Valley Striders club races:
In order to facilitate top racing action, the top males and females in the following three divisions shall receive cash or gift card prizes:
|Division||1st Place (Cash prize)||2nd Place (Gift Card)||3rd Place (Gift Card)|
|Open (39 and under)||$200.00||
|Masters (40 to 59)||
|Grand Masters (60 and over)||$100.00||$50||$25|
Series medals for the top finishers in each age group shall not be awarded, however each race will still have its own age group medals awarded to the top finishers.
The registration cutoff for the series is race day registration at our 20K. However, to be eligible for series prizes and gifts, the participant must have run the prior two races for this to be relevant.
Yes and there is a discounted registration fee of $52 if all three races are signed for at one time. The deadline to sign up for the multi-race discounted bundle is the same as online registration for the Winter's End race. To sign up for this go to the Winter's End web page and select the bundle registration option.
For the first year of the renewed series, we're going to keep the scoring simple.
Everyone who participates in a race will receive points based on where they finished within their division. 1st place in that division will receive the maximum number of points which will be 999. 2nd place in that division will receive one less point, or 998 points. 3rd place 997 points and so on and so forth through all the finishers in that division.
Points received for each race will be summed together to determine the overall division winners.
To be eligible for prizes for 1st through 3rd place in each division, the participant must run in all the series races that are held.
In the event of a tie for 1st place in a division, the clock/gun time for each of the three races will be summed and the runner with the lowest elapsed time will win.
Please bear with us on scoring for this first year. We don't expect to have any issues, but if you feel we've made a mistake, please contact us and we'll make it right.
The series leaderboard is accessible on the series website. Click here!
There are no other series age groups outside of the divisions listed above.
A Master must be 40 & over and a Grand Master 60 & over for all 3 races. Ages for scoring are calculated based on the age of the runner on March 17, 2019. If a Master wins in both divisions (Open & Masters), he/she will get the higher of the two.
