At TCMA, we believe running is better together. Fartlek University blends community, coaching, and a training approach that makes running both effective and engaging—rooted in the original meaning of “fartlek,” or speed play.
Our 9-week Summer Performance Training Program is designed to help you improve your pace, build strength, and develop the stamina to run stronger across all distances. Whether you're newer to structured speed work or ready to challenge your current pace, this program provides the structure, coaching, and support to help you train with purpose.
What’s Included:
Mondays at 6:00 PM — Strength + Mobility for the Resilient Runner
Build strength, stability, and durability through runner-specific mobility and strength training designed to support better movement and reduce injury risk.
Wednesdays at 7:00 AM or 6:00 PM — Speed + Stamina
Structured workouts focused on improving pace, efficiency, and stamina through intervals, hill work, tempo efforts, fartlek sessions, and running drills.
Group workouts take place at various locations throughout Tacoma.

Choose Your Training Level
FU 101: Build
Designed for runners newer to structured speed work or returning after time away. Focuses on building confidence, consistency, and efficiency through controlled progression and manageable volume.
FU 201: Perform
Designed for runners with prior speed training experience who are ready to improve pace and performance through more advanced, performance-focused workouts.
Levels are flexible and adjustments can be made with coach guidance if needed.
Spots are limited to maintain a high-quality training experience.
Membership Levels
Designed for runners who are newer to structured speed work, returning after time away, or seeking a lower-intensity, gradual approach to speed training. Participants should be able to run comfortably for 30 mins or more.
* Designed to build confidence, efficiency, and stamina with less volume and a gradual progression in intensity.
* Workouts are guided by Rate of Perceived Effort (RPE) and personalized paces, ensuring you train at the right intensity for your current fitness.
* Levels are fluid; your coach can make a switch between Level 1 and Level 2 if needed.
Best suited for experienced runners who have prior speed training experience and are currently injury-free.
Designed for experienced runners with prior speed training who are ready to challenge their pace and performance and are currently injury-free. FU 201 introduces greater volume and intensity to help you unlock your next level.
* Workouts are more demanding and performance-focused, targeting speed and stamina.
* Workouts are prescribed using RPE and specific, personalized paces to optimize your training.
* Levels are fluid; your coach can make a switch between Level 2 and Level 1 if needed
