Battling against relentless winds and the looming threat of flooding in the southern portion of the course—a situation that could have led to road closures and stranded runners—our crew was in a dire situation just days before race day.
But like true adventurers, our crew and captains refused to be defeated. We swiftly charted a new course to ensure the safety of all participants. Instead of docking in Hatteras as planned, Corolla was the new destination for the finish line. Even with these course updates, we weren't in the clear just yet. This change brought with it a new set of challenges, particularly in providing adequate shelter for aid stations along the revised route with weather still a threat.
