A Different Type of Race

Our race formula levels the playing field by starting runners in staggered corrals based on predicted time — then it’s a chase to the finish. The final stretch turns into a mad dash as you try to catch the runner in front of you (or try not to get caught). Series points are awarded based on how much you improve on your predicted time, so you’re racing against yourself.

To keep this series free, volunteers hand time each race. We need runners to:

  • Check in at every race
  • Start in their assigned corral
  • Wear your bib on the front and keep it visible
  • Stay in order through the finish chute

When runners miss a step, it can take significant volunteer time after the race to correct results. If you miss a step, just let a volunteer know — early heads-up helps us a lot. Thanks for helping us keep things smooth and accurate for everyone.

Running the Course

Course markers

During the Race

  • Follow the green course markers — may consist of chalk, arrow signs, or cones (depends on snow)
  • Self-supported races — no aid stations
  • Some courses cross roads or driveways — yield to traffic
  • Trails are open to other users

Finish Line Flow

Stay in the order you finish

Finish: Stay in the Chute

  • Everyone is predicted to finish together — it gets exciting!
  • Stay in finish order and proceed through the finish chute
  • A volunteer will record your bib number
  • Do not leave the chute until your bib is recorded
  • Not sure who finished first? Tell a volunteer — we’ll review the video

Even if you don’t care about your time, staying in order is essential. Changes in finish order affect other runners’ results and create extra work for our volunteers.

Results

We hand-time this race to keep it free for members. The tradeoff: results aren’t instant. Volunteers carefully process times after the race, and results are posted mid-afternoon.
