Friends of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization partnering with the National Park Service to preserve, restore, and enhance the natural and cultural heritage of lands, waters, and facilities, in the New, Bluestone, and Gauley watersheds. They provide a vital link between private citizens and the government agency tasted with protecting and making accessible these previous wild and wonderful areas of West Virginia.
Friends and the National Park Service work together to develop partnership projects and programs that address park priorities and have the potential to generate volunteer and philanthropic support in the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, Gauley River National Recreation Area, and Bluestone National Scenic River.
Friends is a huge supporter of the race, staffing multiple aid stations with care and professionalism.
