In 2023, the Essex Fire Fighter’s Association minted its first challenge coin.
Our challenge coin celebrates 50 years of service to our community and the memory of our beloved firegirl Addi, 15A1.
The coin features both the Essex Fire Department patch and our Engine 2 Addi’s Engine Logo.
Established in 1973, we are a volunteer fire department made up of over 35 men and women putting countless hours into training, planning, responding and educaing. We take enormous pride in providing our town the best emergency care that we can. Our customers are the residents and visitors of our region, and we enjoy working with all of you daily.
Like Addi, Addi’s Engine (Engine 2) is all wheel drive and takes anything life has to throw at it. It symbolizes courage, devotion, resilience and reminds people to take care of each other. It will keep our community and Addi’s fire brothers & sisters safe for years to come.
A challenge coin is a small medallion which originated in the military to enhance morale and as recognition for outstanding performance and service. The tradition migrated to fire, police and emergency management.
