For parking on race morning, you will have two options: 

  • Spindletop:  as you enter the drive into Spindletop there is a lot to your left, in front of and to the left side of the mansion.  This lot will hold ~100 vehicles and will be first come, first served. Please use the main entrance to UK’s Club at Spindletop Hall and then follow volunteer directions into Spindletop. There will be parking volunteers race morning to guide you, so please follow their directions!! 
  • Parking will be available at the Council of State Governments at 1776 Ave of the States, Lexington.  If you choose to park at this lot you will be able to leave earlier.  You can bike from your car to Spindletop via the Legacy Trail [you will want to have a headlight in the morning as parts of the Trail may be dark.] If you don't want to carry all of your gear will have the option of dropping it off in the circle directly in front of Spindletop mansion.  We will have bike racks available if you want to drop your bike and bag and walk from your car on the Legacy Trail.  If you plan to drop your gear in the circle please do so by 6:30 am to ensure you have ample time to walk back from your vehicle and set your stuff up in transition.  

Please do not plan to leave the parking area until at least 10:30 if you park in the lot at Spindletop, even if you are finished well before this, as we are not planning to let any cars out of the parking area until most of the bikes have returned from the bike course. So, PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH OUR VOLUNTEERS, as the safety and the flow of our course is most important. If you must depart before 10:30, we suggest you park on Research Park Drive and ride your bike (with helmet on) on the Legacy Trail to Spindletop. Just be advised if you take that option that you will still not be able to take your bike out of the transition area until we have most bikes in anyway. We need to keep the transition area clear for participants coming in with their bikes. Please be respectful of your fellow athletes

There will be a bike mechanic from Bicycle Face on hand race morning until the race begins to help with any minor bike problems. If your bike has major bike problems, please take it to a mechanic in advance of the event because this bike mechanic will not have the time or tools to do any major work.

Several Port-A-Potties will be located near transition, and there are restrooms in the “Barn” next to the Tri For Sight tent, and in the pool house locker rooms hear the pool deck. There will also be a Port-A-Potty at the 1 mile mark on the run course.

The transition area will be open for transition set-up from 5:45 am – 7:15 a.m. race morning. Before you enter the transition area, you must have your timing chip, your body marking and your bike number affixed to your bike. Please have all of this done in advance of going to transition as volunteers will be asking for all of this.

For out of town participants, packet pick up is available from 5:30-6:45 at the tent, so please do not arrive any later than 6:15 so you have plenty of time. When picking up your packet, you must bring a photo ID. In this area will also be body-marking and timing chip distribution. You must show your race number bib to receive your body marking and your chip, so make sure you bring it and have it out! And you will need to have your bike number (will be given to you at packet pickup) affixed to your bike, your body marking completed and have your timing chip before you enter transition. So please don’t go to transition until you have gotten all of this done. We will have PLENTY of volunteers ready to help you. And competitors only in transition. No spectators are allowed, as there is simply not space.

Prayer service – we will have a short prayer service from 6:30-6:45 a.m. in the barn located next to the parking lot. Participants, volunteers and spectators are welcome.

A short, mandatory pre-race meeting will begin in the area between the tent and the transition area promptly at 7:20 am. All athletes are to attend! After the conclusion of the meeting, triathletes will make their way to the pool and get in order of swim seed time (your race number). Volunteers will be asking athletes to get in order as they enter the gate onto the pool deck, so please cooperate with them. If you want to wear clothing onto the pool deck, we will arrange for a drop off location for you so items can be collected after the conclusion of the event.

Duathletes will be directed up the main drive near the pool for the start of the duathlon. Both events are scheduled to start simultaneously at 7:45 am.

RELAYS (IMPORTANT) – Because of the large number of participants, we will no longer have relay racks as offered in prior years, and will instead have a Relay Chip Exchange location within the transition area in the grass island next to the swim in/run out entranceALL RELAY MEMBERS must exchange their chips in this Exchange location!! For bikers, meet your swimmer in this area, secure the chip to your ankle and then go to your bike rack location to retrieve your bike and head out of transition. You can already have your bike helmet and bike shoes on while waiting in the Exchange location. Runners, you need to wait for your biker to rack his/her bike and then enter the Exchange location before taking the timing chip, securing it to your ankle and heading out of transition. Please follow this procedure so we can have the transition area flow as smoothly as possible. There will be a sign and painted area designating the Exchange location.

Weather contingency plan – In the case that we have threatening weather that would force us to cancel the swim portion of the triathlon, the event may be changed at the Race Director’s discretion to include a short run to replace the swim, or shortening any leg of the event. If weather is so severe that the safety of participants on any portion of the course is a concern, the event will be delayed to see if it can be started later in the morning. If bad weather conditions persist, the event may be cancelled, shortened or modified. In the case of a cancellation, no make up date will be offered and no refunds will be given.
