Body Marking & Chip Distribution High Priority

Details

Volunteers should arrive by 5:15 and report to the main tent. There they will receive instructions on how to mark/number the athletes and distribute timing chips. Often these volunteers are the first group to welcome athletes. Although portable lights are planned, a headlamp will be beneficial.

Bike Course Medium Priority

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Volunteers will help ensure the safety of the bike course, this includes, but not limited to: directing cyclists and traffic. Volunteers may be stationed at key areas to ensure cyclists follow the correct course, turnaround at the proper location, block traffic, and provide bike support in the case an athlete should abandon the course.

Note: LFCUG officers will be placed to close the course from the Spindletop Hall entrance to Newtown Pike. They will direct the traffic at the Ironworks/Newtown Pike intersection.

The course will likely be dark or in low-level light during initial setup, flashlight/headlamp could be helpful

Volunteers will need to canvas the area to pick up any inadvertent trash/water bottles/gear, etc.

Run Course Medium Priority

Details

Run course volunteers should report to the Main Tent by 6am. Two water stations and turnarounds are planned. Volunteers will be setting up in the dark and a headlamp/flashlights will be helpful.

A water station includes a table, coolers of water and cups. The volunteers will set up the tables, coolers, set out water cups, pick up any and all trash, and help with the breakdown of the station. Breakdown includes emptying water, preparing the remaining supplies for transport. Volunteers should be stationed to hand the water to athletes. Be prepared for inadvertent splashing. Cheering and smiles are expected.

Turn volunteers will be stationed in locations where a turn is anticipated to ensure the athletes go in the right direction and/or avoid a tripping hazzard. Cheering and smiles are expected.

Transition Low Priority

Details

Transition area volunteers help with crowd control and direct questions. During the initial transition open, volunteers will make sure only athletes who are fully body marked and chipped are allowed in the transition area. During the swim exit, a volunteer may be asked to be present near any trip hazards and help direct athletes from the swim into the area.

Volunteers may also be asked to help athletes consolidate their gear to avoid trip hazards and other activities that will help expedite transition close.

During the race, the volunteers are stationed at the swim entrance to ensure the area remain closed until the last cyclist is in and on the run course.

Finish Area Low Priority

Finish area volunteers prepare and present medals, remove timing chips and prepare these for storage, give water, and direct athletes to the post race meal and results

Details

Volunteers may be asked to perform a number of activities associated with the set up and breakdown of the area, preparing and distributing food and tidying this area.

Parking High Priority

Volunteers will assist athlete/spectator/volunteer parking. All parking will be in the dark, please dress appropriately and bring flashlight/headlamp. A volunteer may be asked to block the Spindletop entrance and direct traffic to park at the legacy trail head.

Race Day Packet Pickup Low Priority

Details

Volunteers will assist with race-day packet pick and address questions. Volunteers may also be asked to assist with other activities in the main tent including post-race food setup, award set up, t-shirt exchange, etc.

General Volunteer

Great view of the race and an opportunity to encourage athletes doing their best!

All volunteers receive a t-shirt, snacks, and our undying gratitude!

Opportunities include packet pickup (on various days), parking direction, body-marking, chip distribution, packet pick-up, on-course directions, and assistance in the transition area, dismount line, and finish line.
