NEW MEXICO
- Trail Etiquette: Horses always have the right of way, then runners, then cyclists
- Car rental: private person, Turo, or others
- Springtime Winds: Run earlier in the day to avoid strong gusts
- New Mexicans are very friendly on the trails, be that to them. Smile, announce when passing, and collect your trash
- Albuquerque sits at ~5,300 ft (1,600 m). Paces will feel harder than expected. Start conservatively, hydrate well, and don’t panic if splits feel slower.
- The desert sun is strong even on cool days. Bring water, use sunscreen, and don’t underestimate dehydration
- It’s very dry here. Chapstick, eye drops, and moisturizer are your friends. Your throat and skin will thank you
- Many trails are shared-use and protected. Stay on marked paths and follow posted signage.
- Grab coffee, food, or post-race drinks from local spots. New Mexico loves when visitors support the community. Green and red chile are a must!
- Driving note: always look both ways when a light turns green. Red-light runners happen.
