FAQs

If you have any questions that you can't find here or in the Athlete Guide, please reach out to Ol' Captain Rich (AKA Race Director Rich) at rich@triviumracing.com.

The Athlete Guide with all race weekend details can be found here: https://runsignup.com/Race/BlackbeardsRevenge100/Page/athleteguide

1. Can you provide examples of acceptable reflective vests? I have one but am afraid it’s too much vest. I have nox gear lights but am worried about that and my vest.
Any vest can do, don't think about it too much.  Most running vests these days have some form of reflective fabric on them.  The better option is to find a vest, or clothing you like and just add front and back reflective tape to it.  This will ensure you are using what is most comfortable to you, but also something that makes sure you are visible.  Lights are not enough.

2. Is there plenty of parking at start?
Both races have plenty of parking available at start lines.  The only thing to keep in mind, is that if you plan on your car being at the 100 mile start line overnight you will need to park across the street in the beach access parking.  The park will not allow cars overnight and has threatened (never followed through with) tickets.

3. Do all relay members need to check in at 4 am and be at the starting line at 5 am? Or is it only leg 1 who needs to be at the 4 am check in and start line at 5 am?
No, only the first runner needs to be at the starting line

4. Do we pick up our own race packets for the relay or does the team captain pick them all up and we have to get our items from them?
Anyone from the team can pick them up.  If not everyone comes to packet pickup, we will just need to do gear check at the start line with the crew members who didn't show up. Or the crew member who picks up can bring gear check for everyone.

5. Can we park our cars at the start?
Yes.  The only thing to keep in mind, is that if you plan on your car being at the 100 mile start line overnight you will need to park across the street in the beach access parking.  The park will not allow cars overnight and has threatened (never followed through with) tickets.

6. Any veteran tips for combating the sand that will end up in socks and shoes?
It is a personal preference thing.  1st, work on having a plan for application of antichaffing cream or powder.  2nd,  if you are extremely sensitive to sand use gators.  3rd, having extra socks and shoes on hand in drop bags always helps.  Switching our for a fresh pair is always an easy solution.

7. Equipment requirements?
Refer to slide four of the Athlete Guide.

8. Will the aid stations be roughly similar to what’s listed in the 2024 race guide that’s online?
It is very similar to previous years, but check the current athlete guide for updates. We have added a few manned aid stations and some additional foods.  We do reserve the right to switch foods (if something is in short supply we might supplement.  Or if it is exceedingly hot or cold we might swap a hot or cold food out to help athletes). The current aid station guide can be found here.

9. Pacers can begin at what mile?
0.000000001 miles

10. Will it be Huma Brand gels again this year?
Yes

11. Is the pre-race dinner included with registration? Can I add on dinner for my family, friends, and crew?
The pre-race dinner on Friday is included with registration, but you need to RSVP “yes” in your registration to reserve your ticket for the final head count. If you skipped this step during registration, you can log back into your registration to add on your ticket. Additional tickets for family, friends, and crew can also be added onto your registration for $20 each.

12. Will there be a pre-race day group shakeout option on Friday?
Yes, our Blackbeard's Revenge Ultra Race Ambassadors will be leading a group shakeout run/walk on Friday at 4:45pm. Join us before packet pick up and pasta dinner!

13. Will there be food at the finish line?
Of course, matey! The 2025 finish line is being sponsored by The Wreck Tiki Bar in Hatteras. They will have a race-specific menu and bar available all night with special post-race refreshments for our runners!

14. Will there be an awards ceremony?

With how spread out the field is and with how spread out pirates select their lodging along the Outer Banks, we present awards at the finish line as you finish.

15. How can you prepare for the mental approach of running through the night along the side of the road?
The night is when you’ll find a lot of pirates packing up and heading out together from aid stations. The night hours can be a lonely and mentally exhausting journey— but if you mentally prepare for it, you’ll be ready, matey! Make small goals throughout the night section to break it up. Don’t be afraid to give yourself a longer break at aid stations if you need more time to recharge before heading back up. Listen to virtual clinic #2 for more tips on this!

16. I assume it will be dark at the start, but lights are not required until sundown later in the race?

Yes, lights are required for any time it is dark.

17. The lights and back ups only need to be with you at dark, so they can stay in a drop bag?
Yes, that is correct. Just make sure you leave yourself some wiggle room to get to them before dark.

18. Reflective vest are required for daytime as well?
Recommended during the day, but not required. It gets hazy, foggy and sandy, reflective gear makes sense

19. There is a gear check for the 100 race day morning. So I can just do the virtual pre race meeting and and no need to attend the evening before?

Yes, that is correct. We will also be hosting a virtual option earlier in the week as well. More details coming soon.

21. Flavor tailwind listed on aid stations?

Mandarin orange, raspberry, naked (unflavored), and some cola

22. Date and time for virtual pre-race meeting option on race week?

Thursday, 3/20 at 7:30pm
