Light Suggestions & Required Gear
Mandatory Gear:
- 2 headlamps or flashlight with extra batteries, if applicable
- 1 reflective or light-up vest
- 2 red flashing rear lights with extra batteries, if applicable
The purpose for this gear is:
- Headlamp/flashlight - you can see the terrain
- Reflective/light-up vest - cars can see you
- Red flashing rear light - cars can see you when coming up behind you (Yes, you're running against traffic, but we want you to be safe.)
Gear Check
- All athletes must attend a pre-race meeting and go through gear check before starting, either at packet pickup on Friday evening or at your respective race starting line.
- Each relay team must have a set of the required gear for the active runner. It's up to the relay team to coordinate how the runner gets that gear, whether that's sharing or asking each runner to have their own required gear. Please note the required gear is required between sunset and sunrise as well as during moderate to heavy rainfall.
- Pacers are required to have the same required gear. Pacers may have their gear checked at early packet pickup, the respective start line, or at the aid station where they will be joining their runner.

Headlamps
- "I’ve had many headlamps through the years but this Nitecore is SUBSTANTIALLY better than any other ones I’ve used. You will see expensive headlamps that are heavy and cost A LOT and only work for a year or two. Not this one. The bungee cord is super light and make it easy to throw on or around any headgear. The battery life is amazing as well. All for around $25, I think they are doing Black Friday deals too." - Tim H.

Reflective and Light Up Vests

Light up vests do not fulfill the headlamp requirement. If they have a red flashing light option on the back then they can fulfill the red rear flashing light requirement.
