In order to be compliant with the CDC guidelines we are changing the Gold Star Mission Run for the Fallen to a virtual race. Please know that the GSM Run for the Fallen is a significant fundraiser for the Gold Star Mission scholarship fund. This race provides another important opportunity for us to honor our fallen military, which is why we are not canceling the event.
A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked), at your own pace, from any location you choose, and is timed by you. Ruck, walk, run, jog, indoors on a track or treadmill or outside in the neighborhood or a park. A virtual race is the best way to get comfortable moving to your own beat and gaining confidence in your strength and endurance! Choose your distance and start moving! It is a great way to be competitive with your family, friends, or co-workers while not traveling to a race. Run on your own or run within the guidelines of social distancing in a very small group. Please follow community guidelines and orders when completing this virtual race. This is a great way to motivate each other and hold each other accountable. MOST IMPORTANT -- we need to remember and honor our fallen military.
The 5k and 3k have special "Kid Friendly" pricing for ages 17 and under ( All runners must register on RunSignUp).
Once you submit your race results your shirt, bib, and finisher medal will be shipped directly to you. NOTE: youth <17 will not receive a shirt.

"Loss, once it becomes a certainty, is like a rock you hold in your hand. It has weight, dimension, and texture. It’s solid and can be assessed and dealt with. What we do with this loss matters" 1. We can choose to hide it in our pocket and carry it around with no one knowing who or what the person was. Or, we can cast it out allowing it to skip along the water causing a rippling effect, keeping the memory of the person lost alive.
A "Gold Star Family" is defined as a military family who has suffered the loss of a loved one due to the service member being killed in action (KIA) while engaged in combat with an opposing force. Gold Star Mission is an Illinois based nonprofit organization in good standing with the state. The Gold Star Mission is a non-for-profit organization dedicated to honoring and supporting Gold Star Families within the community. Our core mission is to ensure the memory and the legacy of these Fallen Heroes lives on through various endurance events, generous works in the community, and educational scholarships given in the name of a fallen military hero.
This is the second year the "Gold Star Mission Run for the Fallen" will take place. Last year we achieved great strides in bringing awareness and honoring our local Gold Star Families with an event that had over 425 participants in Rockford, IL. The Run for the Fallen was able to raise $12,000 in which twelve $1,000 scholarships are to be awarded in 2020. This event consists of a half marathon run, 5k run/walk, and 3k (youth) run/walk. This event provides a platform to remember and preserve the memory of our Fallen Heroes - some of who are from our local communities. The money raised by fundraising efforts and through the race entry fee will be used for scholarships, distributed annually, in the names of the Fallen Soldiers.

A SOLDIER, SON, HUSBAND, FATHER, and FRIEND
SGT Blake Evans
Born: September 21, 1983
KIA: May 25, 2008 (IRAQ).
I recently had the honor to sit down with Judy DiGiovanni. She is a Gold Star Mother. Her son Blake Evans was killed in action (KIA) on May 25, 2008 in IRAQ. Where do you start when you tell the story of one of America’s fallen sons? I suppose the beginning is a good place to start. We have to tell these stories because if we don’t, we will suffocate, or we will forget.
Please watch this video to learn more about Blake.
