-5K RUN/WALK COURSE-

CHINATOWN, DODGER STADIUM, ELYSIAN PARK

The 5K run/walk is an out and back course that takes participants past the main entrance to Dodger Stadium. The course begins on North Broadway for approximately ⅓ mile, then turns left onto Bishops Road. A right turn at Stadium Way takes you over the 110 freeway, toward Dodger Stadium for an uphill climb. This distance includes a right at Lookout Dr., then onto Lilac Terrace which leads again onto Stadium Way. A U-turn at Vin Scully Ave brings runners past the LAFD Frank Hotchkin training center where a piece of the World Trade Center is displayed as a memorial - a 23-ton, 22-foot-tall steel column that was originally part of the lobby structure.

Runners then continue on the course under the 110 freeway, back to Broadway where the finish line awaits those who survived this beautiful and challenging course.
Two water stations are provided along this 5K course.

5K WALKERS

The 5K Walk will start after the 5K Run.

Please do not start with 5K Runners. Timing begins after you cross the timing mat at the start line.

Enjoy your walk, but please walk on the right side of the path after the 10K starts.

-10K RUN COURSE-

CHINATOWN, DODGER STADIUM, FIGUEROA TUNNEL, ELYSIAN PARK

The 10K course is a challenging run through the hills of Elysian Park. From N. Broadway, the course climbs up into the park to higher elevations. The course winds high over the Figueroa Tunnels above the 110 freeway, through tree-lined rolling hills providing a spectacular 180-degree view of the city.

The early morning vistas of Downtown LA, Glendale, Mt. Wilson, Dodger Stadium, and LAPD Academy are the hard-earned and breathtaking sights of the 10K course that very few Angelenos will ever see.

The course descends the hills of Elysian Park and passes the entrance of the Montecillo De Leo Politi Park, a smaller park within Elysian Park.

Montecillo De Leo Politi Park was named after Montecillo De Leo Politi, a park advocate and a children’s book author and illustrator. His murals can be found in Olvera Street, the birthplace of Los Angeles. Many of his paintings and drawings still adorn elementary schools and public libraries throughout the United States.

The course continues on Stadium Way to the LAFD Frank Hotchkin training center where a piece of the World Trade Center is displayed as a memorial - a 23-ton, 22-foot-tall steel column that was originally part of the lobby structure.

Runners then continue on the course under the 110 freeway, back to Broadway where the finish line awaits those who survived this beautiful and challenging course.

Three water stations are provided along this 10K course.

ELYSIAN PARK
This park is Los Angeles’ oldest and second largest park. Elysian Park’s name is from the Greek work paradise (Elysian). Originally known as Rock Quarry Hills for the stone mining. The City Council of Los Angeles dedicated the park as Elysian Park in 1886.

-RUN/WALK FAQS-

IS THE RACE CHIP TIMED?
Yes, there is a disposable chip attached to the back of the bib for those who registered for a timed event. Note that there is a 5K Fun Run/Walk that event and if you are registered for that event, your bib will not be chipped or timed. The participant time is individual and not the same as what may be displayed on the clock.

WILL THERE BE A BAG CHECK SERVICE?
Yes. Free bag check-in will only be provided to registered run/walk participants who show their valid Metro pass or Metro Rail ticket. Any items not claimed by 11:00 am will be donated. Firecracker assumes no responsibility or liability to any lost and/or damaged items.

WHEN/WHERE DO I PICK UP MY PACKET?
Race packets (race bib/timing chip, t-shirt, finisher's medal, and goodie bag) will be available for pick-up on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 10:00am to 3:00pm in Central Plaza in Chinatown located at 419 W. College St., Los Angeles,  90012.

IS THERE SAME DAY PACKET PICK-UP?
Yes. It is recommended that participants arrive on-site before 7:30am to avoid large crowds and long lines. The 5K RUN begins at 8:00am, the 5K WALK at 8:20am and the 10K begins at 8:40am.

Priority will be given to pre-registered runners/walkers, but participants should plan to pick-up race packets no later than 15 minutes before the start of the registered event to avoid delays.

WHAT IF I WANT TO CHANGE RACES?
To change from 5K to 10K, the cost is the difference in the cost of the two events. You may change your event by signing into your RunSignup account and accessing the "Switch Event" hyperlink. There are no refunds if you are changing to a less expensive event.

For changes on-site, please contact registration@firecracker10k.org or inform the person at the SOLUTIONS booth on-site if there are any questions.

WHAT IF I'M REGISTERED, BUT CAN'T ATTEND THE EVENT?
All no-show registered participants will have the opportunity to pick-up their race packet from Firecracker at an announced date. The date will be approximately 30 days after the event. Please look for the email, announcement on our website and Facebook or contact registration@firecracker10k.org for pickup information.

Another option is to switch the event to a virtual event. The virtual event may be completed when it is convenient for the participant and up to one week after the in person event.

IS THERE AN ADDRESS I CAN USE FOR THE START/FINISH LINE?
943 N. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90012 is a “close-enough” address.

WILL THERE BE REFRESHMENTS AT THE FINISH LINE?
Yes, there will be refreshments and drinks for all registered participants (must present race bib). In addition, there may be booth vendors and beverage samples.

ARE STROLLERS AND WHEELCHAIRS ALLOWED?
Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted. However, please be advised that some of the terrain is difficult and has challenging elevation changes. For safety of all participants, strollers and wheelchairs should not start near the front of the event where there are quick runners and keep to the right to avoid blocking foot traffic.

CAN I WALK THE EVENT?
Yes, many participants walk the event. If you plan to walk the 10K RUN/WALK, please line up to the rear of the group and walk to the right so as not to interfere with the runners. The 5K FUN RUN/WALK was created for walkers and leisurely runners and is not timed. Please sign up for the 5K FUN RUN/WALK which is a different event 5K RUN.

ARE PETS ALLOWED ON THE RUN COURSE?
Running or walking with pets is permitted. However, for safety reasons, Firecracker requests that all participants with pets, register for the 5K FUN RUN/WALK (not timed) which is a separate event from the 5K RUN. Runners with pets should try to start at the end of the pack. Pets must be on a leash that is less than 4 feet in length and never left alone. Participant's who bring their pets are responsible and liable for any of the pet's actions or aggressions.

Please ensure that your dog is up to the run. The 10K is a challenging uphill run. The 5K course also includes hills. Ensure that your pet partner is well hydrated and not over stressed during the run.

Better yet, register you dog for the PAW’er DOG WALK!
