L.A. CHINATOWN FIRECRACKER RUN is a community effort to support our local neighborhoods. Each year, the Firecracker Lunar New Year celebration attracts about 9,000 participants and over 20,000 attendees to Historic Los Angeles Chinatown. Each year, the L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Run Committee, Inc. (LACFRC) contributes their proceeds to local elementary schools and non-profit community organizations. With generous support from our many sponsors and donors, community-based organizations and schools receiving Firecracker donations have created unique programs such as raising awareness of physical fitness and healthy lifestyles for seniors and youth. One project helped launch the CSULA Food Justice program through the creation of culturally relevant gardens where young children learned to grow their own fruits and vegetables within a concrete urban landscape. Another awesome project was partnering with Angel City Sports provided resources for a day filled with adaptive sports activities in the AAPI community for those with and without disabilities.
Firecracker donations have been used to fund school field trips, launch a fine arts program as well as a healthy cooking class in elementary schools as well as many other activities to support the health and physical fitness of our youth. Firecracker continues to be a volunteer based organization and your participation in our annual Firecracker event will help fund future programs for our diverse communities.
Net proceeds from the event have been reinvested directly into the community to organizations such as:
