BGR Grand Prix Series
BGR Grand Prix Series
Club members can compete for prizes and get a members-only registration discount on some races (including $5 off your Thoroughbred Classic registration). Join the club today to start participating. Entrants must be BGR members.
All participants will be entered into prize drawings at our annual awards meeting in March! The more points you log, the better your chances of winning. The grand prize is a $100 gift card to John's Run/Walk Shop or a $100 gift card to Fleet Feet at Fritz Farm (you read that right, there are 2 chances to win the grand prize!). At last year's event we gave away running headlamps, a Noxgear vest, She's Birdie safety alarms, and more, and every person who logged entries in the Grand Prix was eligible to win!

All participants will be entered into prize drawings at the March annual awards presentation the following year and must be present to win. The more points you log, the better your chances of winning one of our great prizes. Fill out this form after running or volunteering for a Grand Prix race to make sure your points count. You will be included by the Grand Prix team once you submit your form--that's all you need to do! Well, I mean, you need to run or volunteer or whatever, but you won't need to do any bookkeeping.
2025 Grand Prix Series Events:
OK, read carefully because we have made some changes this year to the specific races based on runner participation the past few years. Some Grand Prix races simply aren't being recorded in our results anymore and we want to see lots of BGR runners at the designated Grand Prix races. As a bonus, many of these new races offer a discount to BGR runners because they are John's Bluegrass Racing Company Races or Racerise Signature Events. The discount should be applied directly to your account if you are an active member. BGR members also get a discount on the two races run by Bluegrass Runners, Survive the Night Relays and Thoroughbred Classic.
Cost to participate in the Grand Prix is free. The participant pays their own race entry fees.

NEW THIS YEAR!
In order to encourage BGR members to race in the varied parts of the state, we have added the Bluegrass Regions Challenge for which runners will receive a special award at the Annual Awards meeting. Complete at least one race from a county in each one of Kentucky's six unique geographic regions as identified here: https://www.uky.edu/NDNP/regions.html
For example, if you complete a race here in Fayette County, you've completed a race in the Bluegrass Region. Complete a race in Madison County and you'll have marked off the Knobs Region. A race in Bowling Green (Warren County) would complete the Pennyrile Region, etc. You don't need to refer to the map to know which region a county is in, just know which county you are racing in. All counties will be listed on the form. In addition to bonus points for your first race in each unique region, you'll be on your way to recording a race in all six regions for your special award (we haven't figured out exactly what tchotchke we'll be doing, but we promise you'll like it!)
Even if you don't have time to do all six regions, you get bonus points for each different region you run in this year!
Sounds complicated, but it isn't. You just need to choose the region from the list on the form and we'll get your points in there. Do all six regions and we'll get your special award ready!
THE RULES
Because if we don't list them people will do anything for points.
The Grand Prix is an individual running competition comprising up to 10 races you've run throughout the year, with a goal to scoring the most points, based off of your chip times and age group finishes.
- You can run any race you wish to be entered for points, but you get bonus points for running the selected races above, for volunteering with BGR as a board member, committee member, and for running a geographically diverse set of races! Cost to participate in the Grand Prix is FREE.
- The participant pays their own race entry fees.
- Participants are solely responsible to submit race result to the Grand Prix/BGR website.
- Virtual races- will count in the Grand Prix, but only 3 virtual events can be used among your top 10 performances. BGR-sponsored events outside the state of Kentucky WILL count toward Grand Prix scoring.
- Divisions: Runners compete within age and gender divisions. 5-year age divisions. Your age division for GP competition is determined by your age on January 1st of the Grand Prix year.
- Top 10 Events: You can run as many events as you like, but only your top 10 event scores will be counted for your total score. Running more events is helpful in eliminating your lower scores.
- Only one event per race or meet counts for Grand Prix Scoring. For example, if you run the Flying Pig 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon, you only receive credit for your best finish (chosen by you when you enter the race). Likewise if you run multiple events in a meet, you receive points based on your best finish in a single event.
- Percentiles: Points are assigned as a percentile of ALL runners in a given race in a given AGE GROUP. You are competing against everyone in your age division in each race, not just people in the Grand Prix of your division. The top finisher in an age division will get 100 points. Points are distributed in 10-point increments per place in each age division. For example, age group first place 100 points, second place age group 90 points, third place 80 points and so on until reaching 10 points.
- All finishers regardless of your place will get a minimum of 10 points.
- Bonus Points: Bonus points will be calculated and administered by the Grand Prix Committee.
- Retroactive scoring: Races can be scored retroactively since points are fixed on all race participants. Joining the Grand Prix is merely claiming the points you’ve already scored by running the events. For example, if you run an April race, and join Bluegrass Runners later, like July, or opt-in for the Grand Prix in July, your points from your April race will immediately appear in the standings, if submitted to the site.
BASE SCORING:
- Participants receive up to 100 base points for finishing first in their age group. For each lower place in the age grouop standings for the race, participants receive 10 less points, down to a minimum of ten. E.g. A second place finished receives 90 base points, a third place finisher receives 80 base points, but a tenth place or lower finisher still receives at least 10 points.
- Only the ten highest scores from the races they enter count, regardless of how many races they've completed.
- Additional points for service to BGR and volunteering at races count in addition to the top ten race results.
BONUS POINTS:
Bonus Point Races:
- Races listed as Grand Prix selected races receive 25 bonus points
- Races selected for a Group Trip will receive 25 bonus points (select 'Group Trip' race and enter the race name in the comments)
- One race per geographic area of Kentucky will get 25 bonus points (you select the county the race takes place in on the form), up to a total of 6 different regions for 150 bonus points
There is no need to claim your bonus points. The Grand Prix Committee will add them in based on your results entry.
Other Bonus Scoring Possibilities:
- Race Officials/Meet Director 50 points per event
- Race Volunteers 25 points per event
- Group Run Leaders 10 points per event
- Other BGR-sponsored event support 10 points per event
- BGR Board Member 10 points
- BGR Committee Member 10 points
- BGR Officer 25 points
Participants must finish at least 3 events to be recognized.
Open to current members only. Members who let their membership lapse before December 31 of the Grand Prix year may be removed from the standings and not be eligible for recognition.
Awards
The top male and female runner overall of the year will be recognized regardless of the age group they are assigned. The top 3 in each age group will be awarded additional chances for prizes at the drawing at the Annual Awards meeting in the spring.
Entry Deadline Effective 2025, all entries on the form must be entered by 12/31 of the current Grand Prix year. This deadline allows the BGR members in charge of setting up the challenge time to close out the current year before entries start accruing on the next year. Thanks for helping us out by entering your races in a timely manner!
