2020 WRATHlete of the year

Before we announce who the WRATHlete of the year is, I think it’s important to talk about why we choose to honor someone this way, and what the criteria is in making a selection.
The WRATHlete of the year is recognized in February for the prior year. There may not be a WRATHlete every year, but some years, there is an athlete that embodies all of the criteria.
  • WINNING ISN'T EVERYTHING:  We want to recognize athletes with grit and determination. The WRATHlete of the year won’t always be the athlete that wins the most races, sets the records, or wins the big races, (but it helps) they also have to exhibit good sportsmanship and a winning attitude!
  • R-E-S-P-E-C-T:  We want to recognize athletes that earn the respect of other athletes:  by giving good advice, good sportsmanship even at their own cost, demonstrating grit and determination or by being genuine and nice people.
  • ALL-AROUND ATHLETICISM:  We want to recognize athletes that participate in different types of events (long and short, trail & road) and at least 3 of the 4 WRATH events.
  • TEAM TOGETHER:  We want to recognize athletes that volunteer at our races (and others) and that pitch in to help where they see that help is needed.
  • HEART AND SOUL:  We want to recognize athletes that embody Ohana, the concept of a family. The WRATH family is at the heart of why we do what we do, and we feel that’s a big part of what makes WRATH Racing special.
WRATH Racing wants to recognize athletes with these traits because these are the type of athletes that help to shape WRATH Racing, and that we ourselves aspire to be!
We're pleased to announce our 2020 WRATHlete of the year: Jay Teinert !!!!
Jay exemplifies our WRATH principles. He's such a nice guy; he runs trails and paved; he volunteers. And he's so consistent: he didn't win a single one of the '19 Hula Loop events , but he still won the series, just by showing up every week, putting in the miles, and not being afraid to have fun in his avocado-themed Hawaiian shirt & blue hibiscus-print shorts!
But behind the easy-going exterior beats a truly competitive heart, as anyone would know who watched him run his third Half of the '19 Dalmatian Run Fest *1 hour faster* than either of the first two, just to lock in the Big Dog award over his competition. Similarly, he not only ran his first sub-24 hundred at Perpetual Motion '19, but he kept going because after all that effort, he wasn't about to lose 1st place!
We are honored that Jay chooses WRATH Racing events, and super-pleased to be able to name him our first WRATHlete of the Year!!
