Weimaraner Rescue Partners
Walk for Weims is a nationwide, rescue-first fundraising event held annually on April 12 in conjunction with National Weimaraner Day. The event exists for one reason: to provide meaningful financial support to Weimaraner rescues while strengthening community connections and visibility.
Founded by a longtime Weimaraner rescue volunteer, Walk for Weims was designed with rescue realities in mind: limited time, limited staff, and growing medical costs.
Why Rescues Participate
Walk for Weims is built to support, not burden, rescue partners.
- Direct financial impact: Funds raised are distributed directly to participating rescues.
- Low workload: Centralized tools, templates, and promotion support provided.
- Nationwide visibility: Exposure to donors and supporters beyond your local network.
- Community growth: Opportunity to reach new volunteers, fosters, and adopters.
- No competition: Rescues collaborate rather than compete for attention or funds.
Proven Impact (Inaugural Year)
- $23,000 raised with 92% distributed directly to rescues
- 6 participating Weimaraner rescues
- 180 walkers across 29 U.S. states
- 40+ dogs helped through medical expense funding

About Weimaraners
Weimaraners, known as the “Gray Ghosts,” are elegant, energetic, and fiercely loyal companions. Originally bred for hunting in the 1800s, they are intelligent and active dogs that thrive in environments where they are challenged mentally and physically. Weims are known for their sleek silver-gray coat, expressive eyes, and boundless energy.
Their endearing qualities are often why many Weimaraners find themselves being rehomed, abandoned, or dumped in a shelter. While Weimaraners make excellent companions, they are not the right fit for every home. Due to their high energy levels, they require active owners who can provide both physical exercise and mental stimulation. Weims are happiest in homes where they are included in family activities and are not left alone for long periods.
If you think a Weimaraner might be the perfect fit for your family, adopting a rescue can be a rewarding experience!
