Brenner FIT is a program for children and families struggling with weight problems and working towards healthier lifestyles. This evidence-based program focuses on the treatment of obesity in children ages 2 to 18 who have a medical concern related to their weight. Funding received from Beat the Heat will be used to support activity programs for children, including Play FIT (a class geared towards younger children and their families), StronGuys and StronGirls (a strength training class for teenagers and their parents), and equipment for activity classes such as exercise bands, yoga mats, hula hoops, kick balls, obstacle course equipment and jump ropes.
Girls on the Run (GOTR) Triad is program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade with a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. Research studies show that Girls on the Run promotes the physical, mental, social and spiritual outcomes that help prevent unhealthy and risky behaviors in adolescent girls. Funding received from the Beat the Heat will help support program scholarships. Girls on the Run Triad does not turn away any girl with the inability to pay, and provides financial assistance to families who are unable to pay the full program fee. Over 60% of the girls that participate in our program receive financial assistance.
