What is a virtual race? A virtual race is a race that can be participated in from any location. You can run, jog or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym or on the track. You get to run your own race, at your own pace and time it yourself. And your race materials will be shipped directly to you.
How does a virtual race work? Participants can run/walk their 5K any time from September 28 – October 3 and submit finishing times to us to be considered for prizes. RunSignup has a great app calledRaceJoythat will offer a suggested route and the ability to track/time your race. The app will be required use for those competing for timed finisher prizes.
How do I register? Just visit our homepage and click on the event that best fits your description and follow the prompts. If you have trouble with your registration, please reach out firstname.lastname@example.org someone can help you.
Can I register multiple people? Yes! You can click on “Add Another Registrant” on the first page of registration OR at the end of your registration.
What route do I take? We recommend that you use the suggested route onRaceJoy(a requirement if you are competing for timed finisher prizes). You can also determine your own using any of the popular race apps out there, like Map My Run or Runkeeper. For that matter, you can just hop on the treadmill or walk around your neighborhood. We recommend looking over ourRoutes and Timingpage for a complete look at route specifications.
How do I let you know I have finished and turn in my time? You have a few options here. For complete details, visit ourRoutes and Timingpage, but here's an overview:
If usingRaceJoy, just turn on your tracking at the “starting line” suggested in the app (at the Lewis Community Recreation Center) and it does the rest! When you return to the “finish line” (back at the start) your time will automatically be stored and sent to our friends at Junction 311 for our results page.
If using another app, just head to ourResults Pageand mark your race as complete.
Don’t worry about timing yourself! Just exercise and have a great time. Send us pictures and videos to share with your fellow racers!
Who can participate?
Women, or those self-identifying as women, can participate in our Runner/Walker, Survivor and Girls Only events. Any gender can participate in the Pink Ribbon Partner 1-mile fun run. More information on who can participate can be found on ourRegistration Event Descriptionspage here in the FAQ.
Can I complete the race with a team? Do we get any discounts as a team?
You can form teams for the race; however,we ask that any current government regulations regarding group gatherings and physical distancing be observed by team members.
Detailed information on teams can be found on our Team FAQ page.
How do I keep in touch with other racers?
We want to hear from you before, during and after the race. Please email videos and photos to email@example.com and post to our Instagram using #WO5K so we can keep up with you! We are working with our sponsors and hope to run some fun social media contests during the months leading up to and during the race. You can win a prize - even if you don't win the race!
Do I have to complete the 5K all at one time?
Yes, you will have to complete the distance all at one time if you want to qualify for a prize category.
Do I need to submit my 5K time in order to retrieve my race packet?
No, your race materials will be mailed to you prior to the race if you sign up before September 11. For those people who register after September 11, three pickup events have been planned. Please see our Packet Retrievalpage for full details.
I don’t live in Greensboro; can I still participate?
Absolutely! This is another wonderful aspect of a virtual race. You can join and participate from anywhere! Please note that the suggested route on RaceJoywill be a Greensboro, NC route. You will be required to determine your own route if you live and race outside of the Greensboro area and will not be eligible for prizes.
When will we know the final results?
Final results and winners will be announced on our website and social outlets on October 5 before 10 a.m.
What do top finishers receive?
Top finishers in several categories will be mailed prizes after the race. You can find out more on ourAwardspage.
I'm usually a volunteer. Will there still be opportunities for me?
We expect there to be less opportunities for volunteers this year, but will be looking for areas where we need help leading up to and during race week. We will send emails to our volunteer list and post needs on social media as they arise.
My company is normally a vendor at the race. What can I do to continue our participation?
We hope that our normal vendors will consider taking on a sponsorship role in this year's race. There are opportunities for exposure through logo placement, emails and chances to provide prizes for the race. Please contact Cheryl Angel for more details.
Can I earn participation points in the Omega Sports Race Series?
Yes! Your 5K will count as a qualifying race with the chance to earn ten (10) participation points! To be eligible, runners must register for the race and submit their times through RaceJoy.
