2019-2020 Calendar

 

August 10 (Saturday) - Season starts! Registered club and training program members meet at Memorial Park at 7:00 or 7:30 AM for our first group run! 3, 4 or 5.5 miles in the park, easy pace, followed by orientation. Guests also welcome to try us out before committing! Full info sent to all registered runners by email.

August 17 (Saturday) - optional 5k race, the Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer 5k in downtown Houston! If you've never run a timed race before, or want to test your summer running mettle, this is the place! Or meet at our regular place in Memorial Park for an easy 3-5 miles.

August 18 (Sunday) - New member welcome and orientation, 3:00 - 5:00 PM, Live Oak Bar and Restaurant. A fun meeting to tell you all about RHC, the upcoming season, intro to the coaches, background on RHC, how the season will run, running tips, gear tips, Q&A session, etc. New member orientation from 3:00 - 4:00 PM, all RHC members welcome and encouraged to come 4:00 - 5:00 PM (or later). Or if you want a refresher, come for the whole thing!

August 24 (Saturday) - Saturday group long run with coaches (and every Saturday henceforth!)

August 31 (Saturday) - Saturday group long run with coaches followed by shirt/hand distribution (for those who registered on or before Aug. 5)

September 3 (Tuesday) - First Track Workout at Memorial Park Track, 5:30 AM and 6:30 PM

September 5 (Thursday) - First Hills/Tempo Workout at Eleanor Tinsley Park in Buffalo Bayou Park, 5:30 AM and 6:30 PM

September 7 (Saturday) - Seminar #1 to follow group long run, with shirt/hand distribution (for those who registered on or before Aug. 5)
Seminar - Strength and Stretching for Runners with Roy Alcazar, Personal Trainer and Boot Camp instructor

September 14 (Saturday) - Seminar #2 to follow group long run, with shirt/hand distribution (for those who registered on or before Aug. 15)
Seminar - Nutrition for Runners with Catherine Kruppa, Advice for Eating

September 17 (Tuesday) - Club Happy Hour, 6:30 - 8:30 PM, Canyon Creek, 6603 Westcott, Houston 77007 (right around the corner from Memorial Park!)

September 21 (Saturday) - Seminar #3 to follow group long run, with shirt/hand distribution (for everyone)
Seminar - Keeping Your Body Primed for Running with John Rodriguez, Massage Therapy Houston

October 12 (Saturday) - Seminar #4 to follow long run
Seminar - Injury Prevention with Bill Cheong, Elite Spine Houston

November 16 (Saturday) - Thanksgiving Lunch, 11:00 - 1:00 PM at St. Arnold's Brewery Biergarten
Come celebrate another long run done and get in the Thanksgiving spirit! Family and friends welcome. 

December 7 (Saturday) - RHC Holiday Party in the evening
See what we look like in our regular clothes! Will we recognize each other? RSVP strongly requested. Members check your email for Evite invitation. 

December 18 (Wednesday) - Holiday Lights Fun Run
Our annual Holiday Lights Fun Run is on Wednesday, December 18, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM! Join us to run in a Houston neighborhood to see the holiday lights! Snacks to follow. Holiday costumes encouraged! Lots of lights (head lamp, flashlight, etc.) strongly recommended. Family and friends welcome.
Location: Meet at the parking lot of Bank of America (5171 San Felipe St, Houston, TX 77056; near corner of Sage and San Felipe); you can park under the trees on the east side of the bank. We'll take off from there around 6:30 PM for a 30-minute jog in the Tanglewood neighborhood.

January 11 (Saturday) - RHC End of Season Breakfast
Celebrate the end of our 22-week training season and prepare for our race in a week's time! Review of season, coaches' talks, guest speaker and raffle! 7:00 - 9:00 AM (after our group run).
Registration and pre-payment required. Cost of breakfast is $17-20 per person, payment required with RSVP. Invitation sent to members in late December. *This is the one time we will NOT meet at Memorial Park for our Saturday run. We will meet at the restaurant and run from there before breakfast.*

January 19 (Sunday) - Race Day!

January 19 (Sunday) - Post-Race Victory Party!
After your marathon or half-marathon on January 19, join us for our Post-Race Victory Party! It's doesn't seem like you will have the energy to do anything after your race, but you will. Probably 3:00 - 6:00 PM, location TBA, but food and drinks will be available Wear your medal!
