Gentine - 2:15 Half Marathon Coach

I am very excited to be the 2:15 half marathon coach this season! This season will be a bit of a change
up for me. Those who know me in this group know me as the “half marathoner” who trains with the
marathon folks. Yes, that’s right during the last five years with RHC I’ve either trained or started my
training for my half marathon with the marathon peeps and about mid/late season you find me
dropping in on the half marathon groups to finish out. I am a true example of the flexibility of RHC and
at any point in time during your training you can find the distance and pace you are looking for to suit
your needs.
As for myself, my interest in running happened in my late 20’s as softball was my sport of choice when I
was younger. My initial interest in running was more to prove something to myself and while I ran back
then, I tended to sign up for more races than I showed up to the start line. Eventually life happened and
running fell by the wayside. Fast forward to seven years ago at the young age of 51 when I dusted off
my running shoes not only for my health, but I found myself being forced to retire and coping with the
aftermath of Hurricane Harvey within a four-month timeframe. Running was a welcome outlet for the
many challenges I was facing, and I found myself training better, harder and even getting faster!
In the last seven years I have completed over 30 half marathons, 3 marathons (two as part of the Disney
Dopey Challenge and includes a Coast-to-Coast medal) and over 70+ 10ks and 5ks…I found RHC six years
ago and its been such a happy place of good people and great fun. I have also been able to conquer the
“elusive” sub 2 half marathon with a PR at 1:53 during my time with the group..(even before my
“running husband” Brad). When I am not training you will find me sitting in the stands watching my
teenage daughter do what she loves, volleyball! Looking forward to a great season!
